Purchasing a ShadowGate Puppy

Answers to some of the questions that you may have when applying for a ShadowGate Puppy.

ShadowGate Cares about the puppies we produce!

ShadowGate Farm breeds carefully planned litters and we take the necessary steps to place our puppies into the right homes.  For this reason we place our puppies according to temperament.  Once you have decided you would like to purchase a ShadowGate puppy you will need to send in your deposit form with your deposit.  That will secure your place in the litter of upcoming puppies.

Each puppy comes with Lots of Love and affection from our family of 5 (2 adults and 3 children), a small bag of puppy food, a collar, a Health Guarantee, Current Vet Record, First Vaccinations Certificate, Micro Chip and has been wormed up to the date.  Once  you are on the waiting list for a puppy you will receive picture updates of the litter, we aim for weekly updates when possible, usually the pictures start within 24 hours of the birth of the litter, so you can follow them as they grow!

Litter Evaluation for the Breed and for the Buyer!

When the litter reaches between 6 and 8 weeks we will conduct a litter evaluation to access the conformation and temperament of each individual puppy.  You will be informed of the date, time and place of the evaluation and you are welcome to attend.  This helps us decide which puppies will be best suited to further the breed gene pool and also to help us place the puppies in the homes that best suit that puppy.  Each dog is an individual and should be treated as such.  Your puppy application is designed to help us understand what kind of dog will be best suited in your home.  In the end we want our puppies to have the happiest and healthiest lives possible and after careful breeding the next step is placing them in the right homes.  It makes sense that if your dog is happy, than you will be happy with your new dog.

Time to take your puppy home!

After the litter evaluation it is time to take your puppy home!  If you are able to come to the litter evaluation you will most likely be able to take your puppy home that day.  If you are from out of the area and are having a puppy flown to you then we will contact you to make the shipping arrangements after the evaluation.  All shipping expenses are paid by the buyer, including the crate.   Payment for you puppy can be made in advance by Certified Cheque/Money order or by Cash/money order on the day you pick your puppy.   Please take time to “puppy proof” your home well in advance of the new arrival, make sure you have your puppy’s “sleeping” place is already decided before you pick him/her up. We recommend crate training your new puppy.  If you have any questions about crate training please don’t be afraid to ask!!

Feeding your new puppy

We will be asking you what you plan to feed your new puppy before the day you pick up your puppy, so please give that some thought.  If you already own a dog please let us know what you are feeding now.  We will provide you with enough of our food to wean your new puppy on to the new food.  Please ask us about the “Peerless” dog food we feed our dogs. It is reasonably priced and delivered to your home and should you live within a Peerless delivery area we can arrange for you to have a bag that you can purchase to take home with your new puppy. Other foods we recommend are Royal Canine Holistic Puppy.

Here are some things you won’t want to forget the day you pick up your puppy!

A crate to transport your new puppy home safely in.

A list of any questions you have about your new puppy. (or you can email us in advance)

If you are travelling more than a 2 hour drive home:  A small metal bowl for water, ask us for a bottle of water to take with you before you             go, a leash and a plastic bag for any “pit stops” (always remember to “stoop and scoop!”)

Your payment if you haven’t already sent that in advance.

Once you get home with your new puppy please give the puppy a small amount of water only.  Let you puppy have time to adjust for at least 30 quiet minutes before feeding him/her.  Let your puppy adjust slowly to one room at a time, and try not to overwhelm him/her, he/she is just a baby don’t forget!! Enjoy!!

If at any time you have any questions please feel free to email or call us!!  And please don’t forget to email or call us with updates!! We love to get pictures!!
